New York Fashion Week: Mathieu Mirano SS2013

The great thing about fashion week is that you can bounce from a full on runway show to an artist presenation. Presentations offer the chance to see the pieces up close and personal. It allows the designer to get creative on how best to show off their latest collections. Check out the latest SS 2013 collection from Mathieu Mirano.

New York Fashion Week: Rolando Santana

On Monday night Rolando Santana’s SS 2013 collection hit the runway. His collection featured various shades of blues and greens along with touches of coral. The collection featured very feminine pieces which can be expected from spring collections. As the models worked the runway the collection evolved from ready to wear to red carpet ready. Rolando also collaborated with Manolo Blanik who debuted two shoes on the runway.
The final walk showcased all the models walking the runway in the same dress but in different hues. A simple change in color showcased the beauty of a Rolando Santana dress.

Fashion | Paola Hernández Fall 2012 “Untitled”

Paola Hernández just unveiled her latest collection. Though the collection is “Untitled” the message of the collection is quite clear.

This collection is based on the search for the balance between feminine and masculine energies. The feminine represents the possibility, the space that allows for creation to happen, while the masculine represents the act of creating.

As a result, an androgynous collection is created with unisex pieces that work for both womenswear and menswear. The garments take some elements and details from tailoring techniques, giving the pieces a masculine character. Paired with this are fabrics that are soft and delicate, giving the pieces a feminine feeling.

How do you feel about the latest form Paola? Would you wear a piece from a androgynous collection?

Academy of Art University #nyfw show

On Friday I had the chance to attend the Academy of Art University Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week show. Lincoln center was a buzz with media, celebs, and fashion lovers waiting to catch a glimpse of the latest collections. The runway featured eight women’s wear collections and one men’s wear collection from recent graduates from the Academy of Art University. How exciting that must have been for them. The designers Wu Di, Amy Bond, Xiang Zhang, Deanna Pei-Ju Lo, Donghyuk Dan Kim, Farida Khan, Kate Y.K. Lee, Jeanette Au, and Jade Juanyu Liu each brought their best pieces to the runway. Each collection grabbed the audience eye. There were so many things to see, you had ivory cashmere wool from Wu Di, wool dresses from Amy Bond, taupe pleaded sweaters from Xiang Zhang, black leather from Deanna Pei-Ju, olive wool shirt from Donghyuk Dan Kim, various wool and silk combinations from Faridna Khan, a navy leather dress from Y.K.Lee, a deep sapphire mohair/metallic dress and coat from Jeanette Au, and quartz bonded microfiber/copper fur dress with a copper fur vest. Fabric, cut, and design were on the forefront of the runway last night. Each designer offered collections with looks that made you want to incorporate them into you wardrobe.

Kim Hicks Couture Preview

The preview for Kim Hicks couture line happened last night on the east side of New York. The event featured four looks that will be part of the bigger show to take place next Wednesday during New York Fashion Week. The host of the evening was celebrity stylist Derek Warburton. From the looks of the preview the fashion show on will be a hit. Spotted last night was Nets Basketball player Kris Humphries  (ex husband of Kim Kardashian) as you may know Kris recently switched public relations agencies. This maybe part of his new imagine campaign. Enjoy the pictures and TGIF.

Time is bringing back ‘Style & Design’

I recently read that Tima magazine is bringing back “Style and Design” It’ll be published twice a year, in March and September, and go to 500,000 affluent subscribers in the U.S. It’ll also have its own channel on I think this is good news for PR pros looking for new publications to pitch  their clients. Also this offers advertisers a new avenue to reach subscribers with a bigger budget. As “Style and Design” is more of a lifestyle publication. I think that since it is only going to be published twice a year may make the race to get featured  tough.  You’re going to have  quite a few folks pitching. It will be important to make sure that your pitch stands out from the crowd. Will you be pitching to Style and Design? What publications have gone away that you would like to come back? (For me I wish Honey Magazine would come back. )

Enjoy your day.

Curly Girl Collective Curl Crush | Naural Hair Meetup

I went to the Curly Girl Collective (CGC) Curl Crush event on Tuesday which despite the rain had a very good turn out and was much fun. CGC is new on the natural hair scene but they are already generating great interest and really fostering a community for naturals. The event included vendors, happy hour, raffles, and CGC take on speed dating (which was the theme of the evening) where naturals need a speed meet and greet with each other.   That was a creative idea that I think helped loosen people up. There was also a hashtag for the evening #curlcrush which encouarged social media integration during the event.

I was pretty excited when I found a vendor that took debit. For some reason I forget to bring cash to these events. Maybe its my subconscious telling me something. But I think I did pretty good, I only bought a pair of earrings, a tote, and two hair bows. That’s a good night if I do say so myself. The items I bought were from QuellyRue Designs. All handmade.

The event also offered the chance to meet your natural hair “gurus” from YouTube to blogs to twitter there were plenty of local celebrities on hand.  I like that the sponsors for this event did offer full size or at least travel size of their products. This is a plus because if someone really likes a product they will more than likely to go out in purchase it, compared to if you give them a small .32 oz sample that wont allow you to get a full experience of the product.

All and all I had a good time, saw some of my favorite naturals, got some style inspiration and just really enjoyed myself in a room full of kinks, coils, and curlies.

Here are some pictures from the evening enjoy!
