Under 30 CEO Social Media Week Meet Up

This years as part of Social Media Week NYC I attended the Under 30 CEO Meet up at McAnns. Twitter was all a buzz over the various hashtags from #smw11, #smwnyc, and  #under30ceo

I have to say being surrounded by so many entrepreneurs was great. There was such an energy in the room.  Everyone had the opportunity to do a 3o second pitch and say what you were working on or what you were looking for related to your business. We even had one attendee who had office space available. He was a big hit that night.

We had another attendee come from Connecticut just to be part of the Under 30 Ceo Meetup, so that lets you know the draw of social media week and Under 30 CEO . The concept of Under 30 Ceo is so great and fuels the entrepreneurial spirit of so many. Of course with this being social media week not only were we engaging face to face but tweeting and facebooking about the event. As well as sending those friend and follow request. There was the discussion on how as young CEOs we use social media to compete with larger companies. How can we put ourselves out there and reach our consumers.

And of course no meetup is complete without exchanging business cards. I’m glad I brought enough, I feared I would run out.

But I have to say the first stop on Social Media Week NYC was a good one. I think I made some really good connections, which is a plus.

Award Season, Superbowl, New York Fashion Week Oh My

As a publicist depending on your client (s) certain months can be busier than others. And you can even say certain parts of the year. In my particular niche of Entertainment PR  the  being of the years is quite busy. January and February are particularly hectic. With the onslaught of Award Season, the Superbowl, Fashion Week  its a whirl wind for many publicist. I have to attack things on both sides since I represent clients who provide media coverage and those that want the media coverage. There are clients that are looking to attend shows and be apart of the glitz and glamor, there are clients who want to have a show during fashion week, and yet and still there are the clients who want to provide the media coverage for some of the shows.

Whether is trying to get clients access to events to cover, or setting up interviews, finalizing locations when these high-profile events come around everything kicks into high gear. There are so many behind the scenes people who work so hard to executed these events.

I am always excited for the new opportunities that arise. I strive to get better at what I do.

During this fashion week social media week is also taking place so I will want to see how that may intertwine.

So as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week starts today, Lincoln Center and other venues across New York will be transformed into the most spectacular runways. I wish all my designers,  publicist, stylist, and even assistants the best of luck.  May your hard work result in an abundant amount of press, a full house at your shows, and minimal on site issues.

I won’t necessarily call myself a blogger. Moreso a publicist who blogs. It has been quite interesting to see my blog evolve and come into its own. I have been able to use this blog as my vehicle of expression, as well as client news, events, network adventures, etc. I’m excited for the next 365 days of A Dove’s Flight and I hope you are too.

Solo Dove Public Relations Est January 2009

Solo Dove Public Relations is based in New Jersey and provides its client with personalized publicity and public relations services in their area of expertise. Sandra Florent is at the helm of Solo Dove Public Relations serving as sole proprietor.

Around this time in 2009  I started Solo Dove Public Relations.  I really didn’t have the name yet but I made up in my mind that I couldn’t just wait for that PR job to come. I was a college graduate who spent the better part of senior year looking for a public relations related job. That didn’t happen. So I created my position. I began freelancing in 2009 and haven’t looked back. I still hold down a 9-5 that funds my publicist habits. I am anticipating the day when I can do PR full-time. I’m working on it, trust me.

Maybe starting Solo Dove Public Relations was my new years resolution in a way. It was a new year and I didn’t want to get comfortable not working in PR. I heard to many tales of people getting a degree and not working within that profession. I didn’t want to be one of those people. My very first[official] client was my Fraternity brother Jerrod Langley. A big shout out goes to him.

Since I started Solo Dove Public Relations, I’ve had highs and lows. It has been a learning and growth experience. If I didn’t make mistakes I won’t have learned what didn’t work. I’ve defined my niche. Entertainment, Fashion and Non Profit publicity and public relations with a splash of event planning along side with counsulting. I’m continually working on building my media contacts. Refining my business practices. I want to continually get better at what I do.

I look forward to the days when I am 10, 20 years in the business and can look back at where it all started. I’m working towards longevity.
