Brooklyn’s newest hot spot, Brooklyn Swirl

Brooklyn’s newest hot spot is the Brooklyn Swirl, where they are serving up mouth-watering flavors like Kiwi Strawberry, Peanut Butter and Red Velvet. This weekend they invited the neighborhood out to sample some treats.

The event was hosted by Pynk Magazine, Blue Magazine, and  Stuff Fly People Like.

I had the Kiwi Strawberry with Mango blend which  provided a much-needed cooling from Saturday’s sun. Brooklyn Swirl not only serves tasty cool treats, their space is also home to monthly movie and poetry nights. There is also an outdoor patio where you can sit and people watch.

If you are in the neighborhood you should definitely stop by Brooklyn Swirl.  Brooklyn Swirl is at 445 Marcus Garvey.

Walmart and Mercury Public Affairs Part Ways In Wake Of Backlash Over Agency Staffer Posing As a Journalist At an Event Staged By Discount Giant’s Critics.
I knew this would happen. Let’s see who Walmart brings on board now. Best bet is to go with an agency that specializes in crisis communications.

“Armor On” new EP from Dawn Richard formerly of Danity Kane and Dirty Money

I had the oppurtunity to attend Dawn Richard EP release party for her latest project “Armor On.”As you know Dawn is a former member of Danity Kane and Dirty Money. She is now on an independent label trying to state her claim as a solo artist. “I was a little nervous about going solo” Dawn says. “Armor On” is a conceptual EP which features ten tacks with the first single being “Bombs Away.” She also released the video to “Bombs Away” on 106 and Park a day before her the EP release.

The title “Armor On” comes from her experience in the music business and realizing that she was indeed a bit naive. She has a song about that experience on entitled Black Lipstick.

‘Armor On’ Track List:

1. ‘Intro (Call to Hearts)’
2. ‘Black Lipstick’
3. ‘Bombs’
4. ‘Automatic’
5. ‘Change (Interlude)’
6. ‘Heaven’ feat. Druski
7. ‘Faith’
8. ‘Scripture’
9. ‘Save Me From U (Remix)’
10. ‘Outro (The Battle)’

During the night Dawn grabbed the mic and sang along to several tracks, answered questions, and even joked about being in several different groups.

International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination | #millionhoodies March

“Racism continues to cause suffering for millions of people around the world…. I look to all people to join the United Nations in our drive to eliminate racism. We must, individually and collectively, stamp out racism, stigma and prejudice.”
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
Message for the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination 2012

I think it’s no coincidence that today was the day chosen for the Million Hoodies march. Which is a show of solidarity in the search for justice in the murder of Trayvon Martin which took place in Sandford, Florida.

Racial Discrimination is alive and well not only in America but in various parts of the world. Use today to get over your own bias opinion.

If you want to get involved in some way with the Trayvon Martin case join the many that will gather today in NYC to show that just because you’re wearing a hoodie doesn’t make you suspicious.

A Celebration of Life | Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2012

As we celebrate the life and times of Martin Luther King Jr. it’s always good to do a little refresher course on why this civilian man has a national holiday. Use this day to learn a something about this man, this Nobel Peace prize winner. Often times the history books don’t tell the full story. A quick Google search can provide you with a wealth of knowledge.

This is just a snippet of the speech that was given before he was assassinated.

You may also want to find a copy of  his book Stride toward Freedom

Or this one that I have

Take the time out to read

Whatever you do today just take the time learn a little more about Dr. King and his impact that is still felt today. I know that some use Martin Luther King Jr Day as a day of service, which I think is a good idea.  So you can go out and volunteer your time somewhere, find someway to give back.
