Celebrating Black History 365 | Do you use Black #PR Wire?

{History Lesson} Who started Black History Month? The answer is  Carter G. Woodson and it actually started as Negro History Week.

In recognition of  Black History Month I will do a few Black History themed/inspired post.  Now I know some may say “you should celebrate Black History all year.” And to them I say you are right.

Moving on as a publicist focusing on a specific target audience is important.  You want to make sure that your press releases, media alerts, email blast and the like are reaching the right people. With Black History Month in mind, it would be ideal to reach the media outlets that African-Americans utilize.  We know that most publications we have something Black History month related so you want to pitch them in time to have your client to be  featured, announce some new initiative, or if there is an event coming up.

A good resource to in your arsenal is Black PR Wire www.blackprwire.com (BPRW) which distributes news and press releases to African-American, Caribbean and African newspapers, magazines, radio and television stations at the state, regional and nation-wide level. This is an awesome tool not only for Black History Month but in general if you’re looking to target the African-American market. Also with the addition of Caribbean and African outlets those that work in a very narrow niche can reach their target audience as well. For example, since I often work on projects dealing with Haiti  having access to those outlets that deal specifically with the Caribbean comes in handy.

On BPRW there is even a webinar you can watch entitled Media & Public Relations Best Practices that I think is informative.  Simply click here, or log on towww.businesswire.com and check the events page.

Take the time out this Black History Month and learn something new.

Happy Flying,
